“It is a good idea to keep in touch, and I suppose that keeping in touch is what notebooks are all about…I think we are well advised to keep on nodding terms with the people we used to be, whether we find them attractive company or not…
Remember what it was to be me: that is always the point.”
— Joan Didion, “On Keeping a Notebook”
I was always writing.
I kept endless notebooks as a child and as I grew up writing continued to be the most natural way for me to process events in my life. I started blogging back in 2019 and that small website quickly grew into a podcast (Born of Wonder) and eventually into my newsletter, where I have grown my subscriber base to over 2,700.
Topics I write about and some selected essays —
Nature/animals/horses
“Riding an Icelandic Horse in the Snow”
Family/Motherhood
Technology/Smartphone addiction/social media
“Are things actually terrible?”
“Why is everything so obviously creepy?”
“Is your phone robbing you of experiences?”
“Why I deleted my social media”
Catholic theology/liturgy/history of religion
“On venerating St. Thomas Aquinas' Skull”
“But what if we’re not made for time?”
Writing/Art
“The Myth of the Solitary Artist”
“Seeing Yourself in the Wrong Characters”
I have aspirations and a vague outline for a book.
When and if that comes to fruition, I will share more details about that here.
